A Massive, National Health Care Fraud Enforcement Action

On June 27, 2024, the Justice Department has announced the charging of 193 defendants, including 76 medical professionals, across 32 federal districts. This comprehensive effort revealed health care fraud schemes totaling $2.75 billion in intended losses and $1.6 billion in actual losses. Among the notable cases, charges include a $900 million fraud involving amniotic wound grafts, illegal distribution of Adderall, a $90 million scheme with adulterated HIV medication, $146 million in addiction treatment fraud, $1.1 billion in telemedicine and lab fraud, and $450 million in various other schemes. Over $231 million in assets, including cash, luxury vehicles, and gold, were seized.
