Kristal Glover-Wing, former owner of Angel Care Hospice in Louisiana, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, Glover-Wing was ordered to pay $3,675,948.42 in restitution.
Glover-Wing was convicted of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and three counts of health care fraud. From 2009 to 2017, she fraudulently placed over 24 patients on hospice care, billing Medicare despite patients not meeting the necessary criteria. Many patients, unaware of their hospice status, testified that they had no terminal conditions and believed they were receiving home health services.
This case underscores the vigilance of federal authorities in prosecuting health care fraud and protecting vulnerable populations from exploitation. The prosecution and sentencing of Glover-Wing serve as a strong message that fraudulent activities within health care will not be tolerated. For healthcare providers and organizations, this case is a stark reminder of the critical importance of compliance with Medicare regulations. Ensuring that services provided meet the necessary criteria and maintaining transparency in billing practices are essential steps in protecting the integrity of health care programs and avoiding severe legal consequences.
